“We die on the day when our lives cease to be illumined by the steady radiance, renewed daily, of a wonder the source of which is beyond all reason” – Dag Hammarskjold
Anthony de Mello misquoted this once but almost more cleary: “We die on the day when our lives cease to be illumined by the radiance of a wonder which we can never describe, which is quite beyond us.”
Dag Hammarskjold was Secretary General to the Unitied Nations. In this quote he is pointing out that what is going on around us is quite extraordinary. Even a simple tree is incredibly complex and an ongoing process but we often become numb to these things and just see it as a ‘tree’.
Stop, reflect … and prepare to be amazed once more by all the things you used to pass by without a second glance.
