This quote is often used to demonstrate the difference between illusion (perception) and reality. The world is (or nature is if you like). If you alone perceive it to be in a mess then it is. If you are removed then there is no mess.
Thus your illusion (perception) is that the world is in a mess and because you believe it so it is. But reality is how things are without your illusions (perceptions) and in this case the world simply is – there is no mess.
